It’s the best week of the year for craft beer lovers in the Yakima Valley and we’re making it even better with a guide to the best bites at breweries and taprooms here in Hop Country.

With hop harvest wrapping up, we’re just days away from the Fresh Hop Ale Festival this Saturday, October 4th. But, you don’t have to wait for the main event to find your favorite fresh hop ales. Take a tour of the one and only Hop Country Craft Beer Trail for fresh hop ales you can only taste at the tap, all brewed with hops harvested just minutes away.

5th Line Brewing Co. - Yakima, WA

5th Line Brewing Co.

A love of beer and of hockey between a pair of friends inspired the creation of 5th Line Brewing Co. You’ll see both passions on full display at the brewery, with its varm and welcoming vibe in Downtown Yakima. On warm days, the garage-style doors roll up to the patio space. Catch a game, join them for paint night or just hang out over pizza and beer.

What to Try: Folks go for the pizzas with house-made sauces and dough but they’re equally known for trays of truly loaded nachos and nacho-dillas. In addition to their innovative brews, they also make a house root beer for kids and grown-ups.


Bale Breaker Brewing Co. - Yakima, WA

Nothing says Hop Country quite like an award-winning craft brewery right in the middle of a fourth-generation hop farm. Choose from 16 taps pouring year-round and signature beers as well as experimental brews you can you only find at the tap. Pick up food from one of the on-site food trucks and enjoy an afternoon on the expansive patio or indoor spaces.

What to Try: The daily, rotating food trucks serve specialties ranging from authentic Latin flavors and wood-fired pizza to handcrafted specialty burgers and sausages. Check their food truck schedule to see what’s on the menu now and what’s coming up.


Bron Yr Aur Brewing Co. - Naches, WA

In addition to being an award-winning brewery, Bron Yr Aur also serves up fantastic handcrafted pizza and other house-made specialties to be savored in two cozy indoor spaces or on their covered patio and wide open green spaces. Nestled against the Cascade Mountain foothills off of Highway 12 just before the point where two scenic byways meet, there’s plenty of room for family fun and furry friends.

What to Try: Signature pizzas on beer-infused crust, oven-baked cheddar tots with signature fry sauce and beer-infused brownie desserts are all local favorites made in-house with a nod to being in the heart of hop country.

Tucked into the Naches Heights hillside, the sweeping outdoor space delivers views of the surrounding canyons. In summertime, the indoor dining space opens onto a lovely, covered patio and you’ll also find abundant seating under a large shade structure on the sweeping lawn. In cooler weather the patio space is enclosed and cozy. Keep an eye on their social channels for weekly specialties, all hand-made in-house.

What to Try: The lineup of signature chuck and brisket burgers can’t be missed. In addition, they regularly roll out weekly rotating specialties ranging from locals’ favorite lobster rolls, from scratch seasonal soups and and-made pasta to creations featuring harvests from the expansive house garden. On Sundays, come for freshly made bagels and lox with mimosas. The house-smoked prime rib dips are a local obsession served starting Friday until they’re gone.


D'Nile Tap House - Naches, WA

D’Nile Tap House

Located in the charming, town of Naches, D’Nile Tap House features 14 taps with local and regional beers and ciders. The quaint space gives a nod to the area’s agricultural roots with walls covered in wood reclaimed from fruit bins. They post the lineup of live music and events on their social channels. Watch for locals’ favorite music bingo nights!

What to Try: Regular fare includes a variety of flatbreads and sharable snacks, as well as casual specialties including loaded mac and cheese and fish and chips. Check social channels for rotating specials such as riby eye night and smash burger night.


Public House of Yakima - Yakima, WA

How does 120 taps pouring local and regional craft beverages sound? Find them all at the west and east locations of the Public House of Yakima. Head west for a taproom housed in a lovingly restored, historic 1940s craftsman house. The east location offers an open, contemporary space with abundant seating. Both locations boast outstanding patio spaces with a variety of seating options, grassy areas and plenty of space outdoor for games and activities.

What to Try: The monthly flatbread specials never disappoint. They also serve a great variety of regular flatbreads and the giant Bavarian pretzel with house-made beer mustard and beer cheese is a must. You’ll also find a selection of sharable bites, salads and grilled sandwiches. Keep an eye on their social channels for outdoor grilling days, live music, events and makers markets at both locations. Selah Springs Brewing Co. - Selah, WA

Selah Springs Brewing Co.

Offering a cozy, welcoming taproom in the heart of Selah where guests can enjoy handcrafted beer brewed on historic equipment that has been in use since 1981. With a wide variety of beverages on offer, thoughtful food pairings, and a kid- and dog-friendly atmosphere, it’s a perfect gathering spot for all ages and groups of all sizes.

What to Try: Fan favorites include the hamburger, fresh ground in-house, or freshly sliced Pastrami sandwich paired with the Scottish Ale or the Hometown Hero IPA. Looking for something on the lighter side – try our lager with a beautifully arranged charcuterie board. 


Single Hill Brewing Co. - Yakima, WA

Single Hill Brewing Company

Located right in downtown Yakima, Single Hill is a favorite community gathering place. They were recently named Large Brewery of the Year by the Washington Beer Awards. The open and spacious taproom has plenty of options for hanging out and it even has a kids’ corner. The large patio has lots of seating for enjoying fare from the on-site food trucks. From their wall of 24 taps, they pour a wide range of craft beers, from their four core beers, fruity sours and hoppy IPAs to lighter beers and experimental brews that release roughly twice a week. Stop by for weekly bingo night (Tuesdays) and trivia night (Wednesdays).

What to Try:  Early in the day, stop by for house-made breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Later on, the resident food truck, Javi’s Food’s serves tacos, tortas, wings, burritos and more . Periodic guest food trucks also join the mix. You’re also welcome to bring outside food or have pizza delivered!


The Kiln - Yakima, WA

This taproom came to be from inspiration between a group of family and friends with roots in the Valley’s ag and hop industries. Hang out in the contemporary indoor space, by the indoor/outdoor fireplace on the large, covered patio (heated on cooler days) or the half-acre enclosed yard and signature “beer berm” with plenty of space for family fun.  Keep an eye on social channels for live music and more.

What to Try: Find a creative selection of artisanal pizzas and sharables, along with specialty grilled sandwiches and salads. Choose from an extensive array of local and regional craft beer on 30 taps, as well as regional cider and wine options.


Outskirts Brewing Co. - Selah, WA

The Outskirts opened their doors in spring of 2023, in a century-old barn, painstakingly restored and converted into a one-of-a-kind space. The large patio’s seating areas, complete with fire tables, overlook an impressive green space with an outdoor stage along-side a tree-lined creek. This is the place to find a fantastic lineup of outdoor live music all summer long. The music doesn’t stop for cooler weather. It just heads indoors, along with other entertainment and events. Check their social channels and website artists and events coming up.

What to Try: For shareables, you can’t beat the garlic-parm cheese curds or the house slider board, complete with beef and sausage patties, pulled pork and burnt ends. Steak frites is a local favorite, along with the beer cheese bratwurst and house bison burger. Of course, don’t miss the house-brewed craft beers and cocktails from the well-stocked bar!


Varietal Brewing Co. - Sunnyside, WA

Varietal Beer Company

This laid-back spot with pure hop country aesthetic is meant for hanging out! The taproom is open to the production space where they craft a wide range of award-winning beers. You can smell the hops! Enjoy everything from hazy IPAs with a cult following, barrel-aged brews, Belgian-style and farmhouse ales and much more. It’s also the place to go in the lower Yakima Valley for live music, trivia nights and karoke nights. Don’t forget about the hop-lined beer garden and covered patio out back, where you’ll also find the resident food truck.

What to Try: Triple C’s (otherwise known as Chris Cooks Carne) is on-site daily, serving up just what the name sounds like, with a variety of mouthwatering creations. Check the schedule for times. Find wings, barbecue, burgers, birria and even lobster rolls and from-scratch soups on rotation. Also find pop-up food trucks serving pizza, dogs, fish and chips and more.
