    Between the Vines Estate Vineyard Tours at Whitman Hill Winery. Cluster Struck July 2nd - August 3rd. Berries formed from flowers in a grape inflorescence is occurring in the vineyard. This process is called “fruit set.” A healthy fruit set is strongly affected by environmental conditions such as sunlight intensity, heat, moisture in the soil, and wind severity. To promote optimal fruit set, yielding a higher concentration of berries in a cluster, our vineyard team dedicates their time to providing special care and attention to our estate vineyard throughout the growing season. Block by block, they clear unwanted shoots and tie individual vines by hand to promote lateral shoot growth within clusters. Although labor-intensive, diligent attention to detail is necessary in promoting even grape ripening and minimizing excessive shading as the berries form. This translates into quality grapes.
