Come in from the cold and warm up in wine country! Yakima Valley wineries are open and ready to welcome you during the winter. It can be a great time to linger and chat with the winemakers who are excited to share the passion behind their craft. Several of our wineries have special events and activities on the calendar throughout the winter. Winery Events!
Desert Wind Winery offers a variety of fun events during the year, as well as informative tours, group tastings, and seated tasting experiences at the facility. You can even book a stay at this winery in one of the beautifully appointed southwest-style rooms at their inn above the winery. Join them for Bunco night on the second Tuesday of every month, and enjoy wine, hors d’oeuvres and prizes. You could be a big winner! Mark your calendar for their Savor the Noche de Salsa dining experience on Friday evening, January 24. Your entrance fee includes tapas taco bar, salsa bar and complimentary glass of Desert Wind signature sangria. On Friday, February 7, their Go Red for Women Luncheon features a gourmet lunch, wine, fashion show and speakers.
At the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center you’ll learn about the history of grape growing in the Yakima Valley at the interpretive center and have a chance to taste wines from a different AVA each month. Thursday evening, January 16 is Date Night Sushi for 2, a couples’ sushi-making class. On January 25 Ring in Chinese New Year with a fantastic chef-prepared menu serving up good fortune all night long! Every month the Clore Center hosts blind tastings of varietals from Washington State. This month, on January23, they explore The GSM Blind Tasting featuring grenache, syrah and mourvèdre wines.
Check out even more special events at Valley wineries. Mark your calendar for Full Moon Fondue with Freehand Cellars. Every month, on the night of the full moon, they host an epic fondue experience. Take part in a vineyard tour and tasting at Paradisos del Sol every Sunday morning or by appointment. Tuesdays with Justin is a special group tasting and learning session with Gilbert Cellars winemaker Justin Nuefield. If you haven’t tried it yet, reserve your spot for a paint night at Antolin Cellars or join them for live music. You’ll find live music every weekend at Kana Winery, as well as other music or art events. You can even take a winter horseback ride or wagon ride to the wineries with Red Mountain Trails and Cherry Wood Bed, Breakfast and Barn. There are many more wineries offering live music or tours. Take in a Show!
Make a night of it with tasting at downtown wineries and then take in a show. The historic Capitol Theatre has a lineup of acclaimed musicals and other performances, including Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, The Lonely – Celebrating the Music of Roy Orbison, Chicago – the Musical and performances by the Yakima Symphony Orchestra.
The Seasons Performance Hall is another beautiful, unique venue offering music from a selection of genres, from blues and jazz to funk. You can even plan a night of salsa lessons! Don’t miss the Jazz Journalists Society 2018 award winner: Jazz Instrumentalist of The Year and Jazz Record of The Year winner, Matt Wilson “Honey & Salt” tour. On January 31 attend Music from Methow, a concert of major string quartet works. Saturday, February 8, hear fun sounds from Seattle the band, “Down North” On Valentines Day, Fretland offers a dinner show with Americana music. Saturday February 15, enjoy Liberace & Liza: A Tribute with David Saffert and Jillian Snow Harris.

Leap Day in Wine Country
2020 has the distinction of being a leap year, giving us one more day to play! End the month of February in the heart of Prosser wine country with A Night of Mystery and Intrigue in the Wild and Romantic Era of the Roaring 20s! The Inn at Horse Heaven Hills is offering packages that include accommodations, complimentary full hot breakfast, participation in murder mystery and appetizers plus your first wine or beer.
