Urban Kitchen provides a 4-month program in culinary training and develops leadership skills and instills hope and confidence in our at-risk youth, ages 10 to 18. The values and skills taught in the program provide these students with tools for lifelong success. Students learn about food safety, basic cooking skills and creativity. They learn to write a business plan for a pop-up restaurant that they operate and learn skills operating the three-night pop-up. Each student receives a set of chef knives to encourage the advancement of their skills on completion. The goal through restaurant participation and sponsorships is to raise $5,000 for Urban Kitchen and raise awareness of the local culinary scene.
This weeklong celebration was established by the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce Leadership Yakima program to promote the fantastic local restaurants in the Yakima Valley, while supporting youth in the Yakima community through the Urban Kitchen program. THANK YOU to the sponsors who are making this event happen!
